1944 Vega Profundo Dreadnought Guitar

Photo for Ad 131869

The Vega Company of Boston is well known for producing two of the most sought after banjos of the 20th Century, the Whyte Laydie and the Tubaphone. Founded in 1881, they also produced wonderful guitars and mandolins until they were sold to C.F. Martin & Co. in the early 1970s.
This 70-year old Vega dreadnought is ladder braced which gives it a terrific bluesy tone. Spruce top, Mahogany back & sides in a standard dreadnought shape with a 16" lower bout. The top has pulled up slightly below the bridge but this hasn't affected playability or tone. This WWII-era guitar is equally at home in a bluegrass band, folk group as well as in a blues setting. This rarely seen Profundo has that distinctive tone that is the hallmark of the WWII era instruments.
$1399 with newer hard shell case
