1941 Gibson F5 Mandolin

Photo for Ad 132653

Since its creation 1922 by master luthier Lloyd Loar, the Gibson F-5 has become the most highly sought after mandolin in the world. This beautiful creation from 1941, is a stalwart example of the instrument made famous by many mandolinists. Musical greats like vaudevillian Dave Apollon, Bluegrass patriarch Bill Monroe, and contemporary players like David Grisman, Sam Bush and Chris Thile have all played the Gibson F-5 as their mandolin of choice.

This back on this particular instrument has some of the most beautifully figured quilted maple ever seen on any mandolin. The condition overall is extremely nice with light lacquer checking on the top and handling marks that can only be seen under extremely bright light and magnification. There is some scuffing on the tip of the back of the peg head. The frets have light indentations under the first string, and then only under the first three frets. It features a carved spruce top of extremely fine grain, triple bound, the large block mother-of-pearl fretboard inlays, and the script “Gibson” and Fleur-des-lis inlay on the peg head. The hardware is gold-plated and original. This mandolin has good projection and a clear bell-like tone.

$26,000.00 in original hard case
