1912 Gibson H-2 Mandola

Photo for Ad 133546

Here’s a terrific sounding member of the Gibson mandolin family. Big brother to the A-4 mandolin, tuned a 5th lower, this mandola has the desirable black finished spruce top, and reddish stained one-piece carved maple back & sides. Its attractive headstock  sports a script inlaid “The Gibson” logo and pearl fleur-de-lis. The ebony fret board is ivoroid bound with pearl dot position markers and extends into the oval sound hole, also ivoroid bound with two outer rings of “rope” purfling.

This 100+ year-old mandola retains its original engraved tailpiece, pickguard, period tuning machines with ivoroid buttons as well as a "Loar period" adjustable bridge. The instrument is extremely playable with only a whisper of fret wear and remarkably low action. It shows normal signs of usage, including finish checking and crazing. Gibson mandolas are known for their rich throaty tone and this one is no exception.

$2,950.00 with gig bag
