Baldwin Ode Series D Tenor Banjo-1977 Model 6501 Dtr-Reduced

Photo for Ad 144054

Here is a 1977 Baldwin Ode tenor banjo in very good condition, just released from the estate of a meticulous banjoist. It's the desirable top of the line Series D, with premium features like a hand-carved walnut neck with 1 rosewood & 2 maple center strips, walnut resonator with concentric rings, and ebony fingerboard with lovely MOP inlays. The peghead and heel cap have ebony overlays. The rim is 7-ply maple with a flathead style brass tone ring. Very gently used, with almost no fret wear. Plays great and sounds like it should. This tenor has that sweet old Mastertone sound, yet projects a powerful clear voice that really cuts through when played hard. Just the thing for Dixieland or Irish bands! The finish is excellent on the volute style neck and resonator with no checking to be seen. Engraved armrest. Scale length is app. 22 5/8 and neck width is 1 1/4 at nut and 1 5/8 at pot. Gold plating has faded on the flange and ring as shown, but could be easily replated if you insist upon original appearance. Upgrades include a beautiful Oettinger tailpiece and a Farquhar bridge [none better!]. Like new 5-star inside frosted head. Ready to play. The original plush-lined case is in good shape. Would sound super in Irish tuning...or be a fine conversion candidate. $2,100 or best offer...email me and we'll chat about it. 12 more closeup pix available, just ask! Thanks for looking. JLM
