Forgive my shameless self promotion - but I'm hoping the B-Cafe folks will enjoy aspects of the feature story that I've written for the Mandolin Cafe, >>HERE (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/content.php?260-Michael-Daves-on-Teaching-Bluegrass-Mandolin-Guitar-and-Vocals)<<. Michael is known as an ace BG vocalist and guitarist, who plays and records regularly with Tony Trischka and Noam Pikelny and a host of others. This story focuses on his 15+ years experience teaching, and it applies to pretty much any instrument including voice.
Particularly this video, in which he explains his approach to connecting the vocal melody to instrumental breaks. He's illustrating on a mandolin, but it totally applies to any instrument.
