Developing a melody (clawhammer)
As part of expanding my banjo capabilities, I've been trying to learn a bunch of the songs I sing with guitar on the banjo instead, along with learning a version of the melody that works as a melodic break in place of a verse.
I'm a bit stuck on Townes Van Zandt's "Tecumseh Valley" - the melody is pretty simple with a lot of sustained notes and rests, and I'm having trouble constructing a clawhammer version of it that isn't too sparse or too boring. Anyone have any tips, or examples of slower songs with simple melodies done clawhammer style?
